A new pediatric unit has been expanded by Rady Children’s Hospital at the Palomar Medical Center in downtown Escondido in San Diego. The public hospital district that runs the Palomar Medical Center has leased the pediatric unit to Rady Children’s which helps them provide pediatric intensive care services in San Diego. This particular designation will not have a San Diego Lasik provider on site.

The chief administrative officer, Gerald Bracht, said that the arrangement made sense from both the patient and financial perspective.

This was a collaborative effort between Rady and Sanford health where they stated that “Our plan for North County is to offer services in areas where families live so they don’t have to travel to the main campus for all medical services,” Rady spokesman Ben Metcalf said Thursday. “The Oceanside campus will provide outpatient services for North County families and now the Escondido campus will provide inpatient services.”

A local San Diego Lasik surgery doctor advised that this option now allows San Diego North County families a place to take their children to a without having to drive much further into San Diego. All in all this looks like a great partnership between the Children’s Hospital and the Palomar medical Center as both complement each other very well.
